… be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — His good, pleasing, and perfect will. — Romans 12:2
Twenty-eight years ago today I started my first job out of college as a parole and probation officer. It seemed an oddball fit for me; a guy who got picked on while I was growing up – yet here I was arresting hardened criminals or ordering their arrest; interrogating them, going off to gun school, and doing my best to keep my part of the world safe from burglars, robbers, rapists and murderers.
It wasn’t the job I expected, and almost everything that has happened since then has also been different than what I expected. Long ago, I jumped off the corporate ladder, abandoned the white picket fence lifestyle, and went for a wild, risk-filled ride into the unknown. Crazy? Maybe so.
But the Lord who orders your steps has also been ordering mine. And I’ve found that every path I take leads me back to Him. When things don’t turn out the way I want them to, where do I find myself? In the arms of God.
What is God’s pleasing and perfect will? Just this: To find our way home.
Be encouraged!
