And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden …" — Genesis 2:16
Every choice that made sense to Adam was good, except one. There was no agonizing over "What is God’s will?" God’s will was clear. Be free. Enjoy life.
This is the great paradox of life. The closer we get to God, the freer we are.
Jesus said, "Broad is the way that leads to destruction … but narrow is the way that leads to life." What does that mean? That means that something terrible has happened. After man sinned, the single choice (eating the wrong food) multiplied to thousands upon thousands of evil choices. When the dessert tray of life is brought to us, it seems full of choices for destruction.
But, when we enter the presence of God, when our souls are washed clean by the light of His presence, fewer and fewer of these evil choices make any sense to us. More and more our desires are set free so that what appeals to us is the fruit from the good trees God has planted in our garden.
