A rainy Sunday at the end of a stormy week revamped Brat Fest plans for the last day of the 3-day festival. The music acts were condensed from three outdoor stages to one indoor stage, in the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Brats were still for sale but Friday’s Take Your Brat to Work drive-through lanes were revived. And the cornhole tournament was moved to the Arena, starting right after the church service. An enthusiastic crowd of several hundred worshipers filled the Arena for the 9:00 am church service. “They have moved heaven and earth to get us out of the…
By Seth Nelson- Wisconsin State Journal – Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Downtown Madison was damaged by fire Friday morning after its steeple was apparently struck by lightning. The first call about a fire at the historic church, at 120 W. Johnson St., came in at 11:17 a.m., about 10 minutes after witnesses reported hearing an extraordinarily loud boom in the area, likely from a lightning strike, Madison Fire Department spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said. MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A Madison church held an inclusive Easter service Sunday, as everyone is invited to join in the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Music blared and people danced, sang, and prayed at the Fountain of Life Covenant Church Sunday morning. “We put a little extra secret sauce on it for Easter Sunday,” long-time Pastor Reverend Dr. Alexander Gee said. “It’s dancing, it’s singing, it’s poems, it’s good food. It’s being with family because it’s just good to be reminded that we’re not on our own and that we have this energy that comes through the…
By Gayle Worland – Wisconsin State Journal – On Christmas Eve the church was filled with candlelight, carols and the sound of a brass quartet. On Friday, members of Luther Memorial made their way past the soaring stone arches and ornamental windows to celebrate Twelfth Night Epiphany Eve, the 12th and final night of the Christmas season, with Holy Communion. A cheery reception would follow. It’s been a festive year at Luther Memorial, the elegant, towering neo-Gothic church at 1021 University Ave. that has just marked a century in Madison. By David Dahmer – Madison 365 – Some amazing Gospel artists will be performing at Mount Zion Baptist Church on Madison’s South Side on Friday, Dec. 8, as PeBoGa Productions hosts the 19th Annual Fall Gospel Fest. “Year 19. That’s amazing, isn’t it?” says Clyde Gaines, the organizer of the 19th annual Fall Gospel Fest. “It’s amazing to be around that long because when we first started, we were just doing this event to bring Gospel music at that level to Madison and not really thinking we would be doing it for 19 years. It’s been an incredible run.” Read…
By David Dahmer – Madison 365 – Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the largest African-American congregation in Madison, is an important institution on Madison’s South Side. Over the years, Mt. Zion has provided numerous important programs and services to support people in the greater Madison community. Much of that community work that they do now is under the MTZ Charitable Organization, established in 2021, which operates programs for underprivileged and impoverished youth in Madison to advance equity and accelerate their academic achievement. In an effort to let the community know more about MTZ, Mt. Zion will host “Building Hope Together: Introducing…
Hope Night Wisco! Frank Lloyd Wright probably didn’t have this in mind when he first began designing what became Madison’s Monona Terrace Convention Center: a Friday night Holy Ghost revival service that filled Exhibition Hall B for three hours or more. Hope Night Wisco at Monona Terrace was the 13th event in a series of Hope Nights that started a year ago last March when a recently converted couple in Chippewa Falls decided to sell their bar and event center. Before the sale their pastor, Landon Huie of Eau Claire’s Oasis Church, suggested, “Let’s have a worship night and lift…
Experience the awe and wonder when a community worships around-the-clock together. “Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.” – Psalm 95:1-2
The Christian church is a multinational, multicultural, multilingual body that spans every society on the globe. In the twenty-first century, the vast majority of Christians live in the “Global South”—Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Yet in many conversations about “the Church,” Americans tend to focus on themselves. In this summer series of conversations Upper House will host five talks to explore some of the dominant social issues in the global church—issues that affect all Christians, albeit in different ways depending on location. We’ll seek to learn from people in our community who have experience and expertise in other parts of…
