The purpose of the Pier 39 Ministry is to develop a spiritual bond of fellowship between Christian men and boys of diverse cultures, as well as religious backgrounds throughout Dane County, says founder David Robinson, a local businessman.
"Our mission is to create a strong base of fellowship that will then reach out and minister to those who are looking to fill that spiritual emptiness in their lives, as well as to spiritually guide and nurture those boys who are fatherless or just lacking the presence of the Lord in their lives," he says. "Our vision is to use this fellowship group for community outreach projects. By giving the men and boys in this fellowship the opportunity to go out into their community and make a difference, they can experience first- hand, the inner rewards of good works in the name of the Lord."
Pier 39’s first event was February 2006. A group of 16 boys and men went to a UW Badger Hockey game. Now plans have been made to take a group of 30 men and boys to a Milwaukee Brewers game on Saturday, July 29. The tickets have been bought, the bus has been booked. But more men and boys are needed to fill up the bus. If you’d like to get involved in this ministry, call David Robinson at 845-1383.
"We feel these sporting events provide a relaxed atmosphere to enhance the fellowship bond and are enjoyed by all," he says.
