Much is being made of the unusual combination of numbers in today’s date. Perhaps too much. News stories report that women nearing the end of their pregnancies are taking steps to make sure their children will not have a 6/6/6 birth date. Certain books and movies are seizing this day as the perfect release date. All because the Bible identifies 666 as the mark of the beast.
Wikipedia reports: The Number of the Beast is mentioned in the Book of Revelation in the New Testament and has long been accepted to be 666 (or, in some cases, 616). The meaning of the number is debated. In some interpretations of Christian eschatology the "Beast" is believed to refer to a being controlled by or equated with the Antichrist, whereas some scholars, such as Dr. Delbert Hillers and the editors of the Oxford & Harper Collins translations, contend that the number is a code for the Roman Emperor Nero, a view that is also supported by the Roman Catholic Church.
Beastly jokes are making the rounds. (What is 664? Oh, that’s the next door neighbor of the beast.) The good news (I think) is that the Rapture Index is only at 157, which is down from a record high of 182 on Sept. 24, 2001.
