When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. — Genesis 3:6
What’s wrong with Eve’s reasoning? In a sense, nothing. All of these desires are good. Read the Bible. God gives us good things – like food – to enjoy. Beauty is God-given and meant to be enjoyed. Solomon and others were commended for seeking wisdom.
In another sense, everything was wrong. Eve left God out of the equation. All her good desires were corrupted by the doubts and lies that were implanted in her mind.
The Bible says, "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." It also says that He "satisfies your desires with good things."
Just as Eve neglected to bring her doubts to the Lord, she also neglected to bring her desires to Him.
There is only one safe place, and that is in the arms of Jesus. He is our way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).
