It is a competition. People actually vote to decide which organizations get the top grant awards. But many of the organizations represented cooperate and work together to serve the needs of people in the Madison area. That was clear as United Madison Christian Givers (UMCG) held another of its regular Award Events on April 27, 2026, at the InterVarsity building. “We’re all Christians come together to do God’s work,” said UMCG CEO Diane Hanson. These quarterly gatherings draw together Christians from various local denominations and church communities who share a desire to find out how God is moving in the…
By Chris Rickert – Wisconsin State Journal – A year after he was shot four times at Abundant Life Christian School — including twice in the head — Samy Garduno-Martinez is able to talk, is regaining his memory and is relearning how to walk. It’s a recovery that his physicians didn’t think was possible, but that his family never stopped believing in. “I always say that when the science says no, God says yes,” said Samy’s mother, Gabriela Martinez, who ascribes Samy’s ongoing recovery to “many miracles.” Read more of this story.
By Erin Gretzinger – Madison Capital Times – On the evening of Dec. 16 last year, Marcio Sierra Jr., the senior pastor of Lighthouse Church, felt his faith being tested. That morning, a 15-year-old student at Abundant Life Christian School opened fire on her teachers and classmates, leaving two dead and six more injured before she died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. By Kayla Huynh – The Capital Times – On Madison’s west side, 4-year-old kindergarten through eighth grade students at Lighthouse Christian School welcome guests with greetings unique to each class. In the Eagles class, named after Edgewood College, seventh graders eagerly stand atop their seats to recite a mantra. “Welcome to the home of the Edgewood Eagles, where we soar to new academic heights, and we grow in maturity and responsibility, and we rely on the joy of the Lord to be our strength,” the students chant in unison. “May you be blessed today!” Lighthouse has grown rapidly…
By Fred Grossenbach – MCGF – Twenty-two young scholars of Lighthouse Christian School were baptized in the Lighthouse church sanctuary this week. Originally, nine students were scheduled to be baptized, but over the weekend, Bob Lenz from Life Promotions, was used mightily by God and 13 more students committed their lives to Jesus. “The Gospel is preached daily to our students and every year we have a baptism service for children who have received Jesus into their hearts and do not attend a church of their own,” said Marcio Sierra, Senior Pastor of Lighthouse Church. “This year, many children have…
