Churches throughout the Madison area are co-hosting a fourth annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service on Monday, November 24th at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish on Owen Drive. The service will begin with a 6:15 pm prelude and include members of the Catholic, Evangelical, and mainline Protestant communities. The Dwelling, a space dedicated to 24/7 prayer and a heart for Kingdom mission has opened up on Madison’s Northside. “The Dwelling is not rooted in any local church, but we are intimately connected with and members of the Body of Christ in Madison,” said Kate Boler, the lead of the core team. This was year four of Madison’s collaborative week of service, and do we ever have the stories to back up the momentum and value of this experience! Over 300 volunteers from 24 Madison churches contributed 898 volunteer hours of work at 12 public schools and other sites around Madison. Most folks volunteer at one site: the site their church is working at, the site that works best for their schedule, or the one closest to their neighborhood. Church leaders from the Catholic, Orthodox, mainline Protestant, Evangelical and African American communities helped plan the one-hour service, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, 418 Holly Ave. The prayer service has room for more than 1,000 people and will emphasize commonalities across denominations, said organizer John Schmitz.
