The 2022-2023 Annual Report of The Collaboration Project highlights 12 months of activities aimed at bringing together the Church of Dane County in unity to promote the flourishing of all. “The kind of unity is an opportunity for the Church to be a light and a source of great hope in our world today,” writes executive director Jon Anderson. “The greater community is deeply divided, and these divides threaten the ability for all to flourish, especially for the most vulnerable.” Check out the whole report here.
How then can a man be righteous before God? — Job 25:4Job’s three friends are searching for Job’s sin but cannot find it. This is their last attempt. Bildad says in essence: "You cannot be righteous because no one can be righteous." Job must be dirty. Yet when God described Job to Satan, He called Job "blameless" and "upright."Many Christians seem to take up Bildad’s search for sin in every believer. You must be dirty. And if I turn you upside down and shake you long enough, sin will fall out of your pockets. But how does God describe us? "Becoming…
AMMAN, JORDAN (ANS) — “Christian” is not just a political party in Lebanon. Many true evangelical believers live in that war-torn nation, and they are not all in the “safe” areas, away from the rockets, bombs and troops. Many Christians are among the hundreds of thousands of Lebanese already displaced by the escalating conflict. They have taken refuge in open parks and playgrounds. Others have fled into Syria and Jordan. Read more.
After spending 30 years in the wilderness the "Christian left" is making its voice heard. From Washington, D.C., to Dallas, large conferences have been held in an attempt to politically mobilize these "progressive" Christians. Much can be said about this burgeoning movement, and much will be said in the coming months. Read more.
There’s something awfully syncretistic about the 72-foot Statue of Liberation Through Christ, created by World Overcomers Outreach in Memphis. It looks like the New York Harbor’s Statue of Liberty, only instead of a torch, she’s carrying a cross, and instead of the July 4, 1776, tablet, she carries the Ten Commandments. Her crown says "Jehovah," and a tear is running down her cheek. A tear indeed. World Overcomers pastor Alton Williams says the 12,000-pound statue, which cost $260,000, was created to fight "godlessness in America." The New York Times quotes him saying, "This statue proves that Jesus Christ is Lord…
Dear Sisters, This song, by Bruce Cockburn, a musician, song writer, and Christian, has been tugging on my heart.ARTIST: Bruce CockburnTITLE: Lovers in a Dangerous Time Don’t the hours grow shorter as the days go byYou never get to stop and open your eyesOne day you’re waiting for the sky to fallAnd next you’re dazzled by the beauty of it allWhen you’re lovers in a dangerous time Lovers in a dangerous time These fragile bodies of touch and tasteThis vibrant skin this hair like laceSpirits open to the thrust of graceNever a breath you can afford to waste {Refrain}When you’re lovers in a…
Dear sisters,Last year I attended a training seminar in Michigan called SALTS – Survivors of Abuse Leadership Training Seminar. I’m writing to invite some other women – and men, too – to consider attending this seminarSponsored by Open Hearts Ministry, this seminar offers skills and expertise to people interested in learning to facilitate healing and recovery groups for abuse survivors. Across the country, the groups go by different names – Grace Groups, Beauty for Ashes, Abuse Recovery Support Groups – but their purpose and approach is the same.Although the focus is on sexual abuse survivors, SALTS – and the group healing process…
Dear sisters, It’s Saturday. The farmers’ market in Madison is in full swing. A strange-but-true experience (but the morning buns are still amazing – and probably 600 calories each. how many times do you have to walk around the square to burn off one morning bun???). The farmer’s market is a foray into a unique, though sometimes foreign, land.I see women pushing strollers from stall to stall wearing "Pro-Child – Pro-Choice" t-shirts.My heart aches when I see young women seeking signatures for "reproductive rights." I love these girls. I want them to come to Jesus and find life. I know…
Sisters, I just learned that a new resource has been published for people using theophostic prayer in healing prayer ministry. Fr. Bob Sears and another Catholic priest from north Dakota have authored a Çatholic’s guide to Theophostic Ministry. For any Catholic sisters involved in healing prayer ministry, this is worth having and using. Protestants (and many Catholics) among our community of women may not know that inner healing prayer ministry was a non-issue back in the 1970s – except for some visionary Catholics and a few Pentecostals who had never stopped. Catholics like Francis and Judith MacNutt, the Linn brothers started writing about…
Welcome to Madison Christian Women. Let me introduce myself.I am part of Faith Community Bible Church, a Body and building located between campus and the Triangle neighborhood in Madison. I’m mom to three adult daughters and work as a writer and professional storyteller.I put this blog together because I’d been thinking that the Body of Christ in Madison really needed more connection. I thought about a monthly…
