When the Christian rock band MercyMe plays the Coliseum at Alliant Energy Center on Feb. 7, it will do so with one of the most unusual — and riskiest — ticketing approaches in the music industry.
For the last four years, to save its fans money, the band has bypassed Ticketmaster, the giant ticket sales company with the eyeball-popping service fees. Instead, MercyMe brings its Rock & Worship Roadshow to towns for just $10 at the door. All seating is general admission.
“People have told us it’s the dumbest thing we could possibly do,” said MercyMe frontman Bart Millard.
