A growing Christian school on Madison’s west side held a “building blessing” on June 22nd to mark the beginning of renovations to its first dedicated school building.
Currently operating from Lighthouse Church at 5202 Regent St, Lighthouse Christian School plans to occupy 6400 Schroeder Road (formerly owned by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship) by the 2017-2018 school year.
During the Building Blessing church and school leaders signed a banner with blessings and Bible verses (“holy graffiti”). Tours of the building were offered with Lighthouse Co-Pastors Marcio Sierra Jr and Tia Sierra, who also serves as principal. The banner will remain in place during construction to inspire those working on the project, and either be placed in a time capsule inside a wall or displayed in the finished building.

– Lighthouse community outlook and history
- The church and school desire to reach out to the entire community, especially to positively impact the academic achievements of minority students in the Madison area
- Lighthouse Church was founded as an outreach to foreigners in the city and offers services in both English and Spanish. It is part of the Apostolic Network of Global Awakening.
- Lighthouse Christian School was founded in 2004 as an elementary program and has since grown to include state-licensed child care for ages 2-12, 4K and kindergarten through seventh grade. The school also has an eastside location, Lighthouse Kids, which offers childcare and preschool.
- The school has more than doubled in size since 2012 and hopes to add grades 7 and 8 by the 2018-19 school year. Currently serving 93 students, they hope to serve 260 students by 2022-23.
– Tie to state voucher program (Wisconsin Parental Choice)
- Lighthouse Christian School is the first and only private school in Dane County to participate in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program, which provides financial aid for income-eligible families who want to send their children to private schools. More than half of current students attend on state vouchers.
- Lighthouse desires to partner with both public and private schools in the neighborhood to enhance education for all.
