PORTLAND, OR (August 23, 2010) — Billy Rojas and the Centroids community today issued the Ground Zero Declaration, a detailed set of principles that support religious freedom but oppose construction of the Cordoba House (aka Park 51) Islamic center near the World Trade Center site in lower Manhattan.
This declaration builds on the concerns expressed by politicians such as Newt Gingrich and George Pataki, supported by a detailed analysis of where Islamic beliefs are incompatible with American values. The Declaration consists of four sections:
Affirmation of core American values, including religious freedom - Summation of the argument against a new Islamic center near Ground Zero
- Invitation to create a true Reformed Islam, based on the Meccan suras and compatible with American values
- Action the Park 51 builders can take to alleviate American concerns about Islam
“If Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is serious about reforming Islam,” said Billy Rojas, media contact for the Ground Zero Declaration, “then he should welcome this Declaration as a way to divorce himself from the negative aspects of Islamic ideology. If not, then Americans need to realize that giving Muslims the ‘freedom’ to fully practice traditional Islam means allowing them to restrict the freedom of others.”
The Ground Zero Declaration is hosted at a new website http://GroundZeroDeclaration.org/ where American citizens can sign on to show their support for its values.
The Ground Zero Declaration is an independent project of Billy Rojas and Centroids, an online community of thinkers and activists at http://groups.google.com/group/RadicalCentrism/. It is not supported by or affiliated with any other organizations or individuals.
