The U.S. Catholic Bishops have declared a Fortnight for Freedom to highlight concerns over the erosion of Religious Freedom in the United States. The two-week observance begins June 21st with a Mass in Baltimore, the oldest Cathoic Diocese in the U.S.
Each diocese in the U.S. will be observing the campaign. The details for the Madison observance have just been published by the Madison Catholic Herald.
A separate rally for religious freedom is scheduled in Madison next Friday.
The Madison observance begins with a rosary rally at the State Capitol on Thursday, June 21st.
On Friday June 22nd Bishop Paul Swain of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls will speak on Religious Liberty. Bishop Swain is a former vicar-general of the Madison diocese. Before converting to Catholicism and becoming ordained as a priest, Swain served as legal counsel to former Wisconsin governor Lee Dreyfus.
The Fortnight for Freedom ends on Wed., July 4, 2012.
UPDATE: A number of organizations are sponsoring Stand Up For Religious Freedom rallies at noon on Friday, June 8, 2012. The Madison rally will take place at the Kastenmeier Federal Courthouse, 120 N. Henry Street.
