(MADISON, WI) – Members of the historic First Congregational Church will pound the first nail and kick off construction of a new Habitat for Humanity of Dane County home in the Twin Oaks Subdivision in Madison this Saturday, October 7, 2006.
First Congregational Church United Church of Christ was established in 1840 when Madison’s population was 146 people and the Dane County population totaled about 300. The church is located at 1609 University Ave., Madison, and will be providing financial support to construct this home.
The ceremony for the Brooks-Hall Family will be held Saturday, Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. at 5207 Bliss St., Twin Oaks Subdivision on Madison’s Southeast side.
“Madison is blessed to have First Congregational Church in our city, which has a long and distinguished history of community service,” said HFHDC’s Executive Director Brian Miller. “Thank you to the members of First Congregational Church who are helping Habitat reach its ultimate goal of affordable housing for everyone in Dane County.”
Julie Hall has two daughters (8 and 6 years old) and one son (4 years old). She taught elementary education for nine years, but now has her own house/commercial cleaning business. She says she is extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to have her children grow up in their own home.
“We feel extremely blessed to have been chosen to receive a Habitat for Humanity Home and want to thank the members of First Congregational Church for all their help in building our home,” Hall said. “This is a wonderful life changing experience.”
Habitat for Humanity of Dane County provides simple, decent, affordable housing for families who might not otherwise become homeowners. Eligible families pay monthly mortgage payments on a 0% interest loan, and contribute 350 hours of sweat equity in the building of their homes and an additional 50 hours helping other Habitat homeowners build their homes.
