NEWS RELEASE
Appeal will gather blankets, bedding at Madison ShopKo stores Jan. 26-27, churches Jan. 27-28.
Madison’s mild winter has turned cold and snowy after all. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is asking Dane County residents to let the blanket of white and the low temperatures serve as reminders to share the comfort they enjoy in their own homes with those who have less – by recycling the warmth.
The local charity’s 15th Annual Recycle the Warmth Blanket Drive will enable caring people across the county to spread their good fortune to neighbors in need who approach St. Vincent de Paul for help year round. The Society’s appeal for blankets and other bedding will take place Jan. 26-28. The campaign annually collects thousands of new and used blankets, comforters, sheets, pillowcases, and sleeping bags that the Society then provides without cost to people in need.
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 26, and Saturday, Jan. 27, St. Vincent de Paul volunteers will staff Recycle the Warmth collection points at all four Madison-area ShopKo stores. ShopKo will offer blankets at sale prices. Bedding will also be collected at St. Vincent de Paul’s five Dane County thrift stores – three stores in Madison, one in Stoughton, and one in Waunakee.
More than 50 area religious congregations will collect bedding for the blanket drive on Saturday, Jan. 27, and Sunday, Jan. 28. Donors may contact the Society of St. Vincent de Paul at 278-2920 for participating places of worship, which are also listed at: www.svdpmadison.org/recyclewarmth.html .
Tax-deductible donations of money are welcome and will help buy blankets and bedding for people in need.
