Once again Faith Community Bible Church, at the corner of Park and Regent Street will open their facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from Ash Wednesday to Palm Sunday.
Since 2008 UW Campus leaders have hosted a prayer room during lent called the Badger Prayer Room. Students built and ran the room, making sure the time slots were covered so that prayers for the Lord to bring HIs glory and salvation to the UW campus would be offered 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
According to Peter Horton, coordinator of the prayer room, this year there has been a shift in emphasis for this prayer effort. “We have been led to broaden the focus to include Madison and the world. Also, it’s clear to us that the whole body of Christ should be engaged in concentrated praise, worship, and prayer. So we invite our brothers and sisters in Madison to join us.”
The reason for this shift is obvious. A spirit of divisiveness, acrimony, and conflict is running rampant in the city. This spirit divides neighborhoods, congregations, friends and even families.
According to Horton, “We need first to envision and build the room. We are inviting anyone who wishes to participate to meet with us weekly on Sundays from Noon to 1 at FCBC to pray and plan. We will be discerning not only what the prayer focus of the room will be but also the ways that we will help engage the body of Christ in prayer. Then on February 17-19 we’ll be building the room together, all hands on deck.
Beginning on Ash Wednesday and continuing for at least 21 days we’re planning on praying 24-7 for Madison and the world. There will be a simple and convenient way to signup to pray online. We will also keep the room open until Ash Wednesday for anyone to pray.”
