So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. — Acts 3:5
The man in this passage was lame from birth. His expectations were molded by his limitations. He would never walk. He would never work. He would always beg. In his world, there were only two kinds of people — those who gave him money and those who didn’t.
You could draw a small circle and write inside it with tiny words, "our expectations." For that is what they are — tiny compared to the gift of God.
We hope for money, or some improvement in our spouse, or relief from pain. But, like the man in the story, we don’t wake up thinking that today we might receive a gift from God that will forever change our lives.
But we might. Who knows what God has in store for you? Who can draw a circle around the imagination of God!
When I pray the prayer of Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:10), I ask God to "bless me with blessings I don’t even have the sense to ask for." Who knows what He might give!
