I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. — Philippians 4:13
"I can’t get away. Things are out of control. I can’t stop this."
When I was a boy, the kids at my school practiced a ritual they called initiation. I won’t bother with the details other than to say this: If you were male, you didn’t want to be initiated. I did my best to avoid being caught, but one day I found myself in the clutches of one of the initiators.
I was terrified. I didn’t know what to do. I sat there, helpless, too scared to even think about praying.
But God answered the prayer I was too scared to pray. He sent an angel – or maybe he was a man – I don’t know – who spoke to my initiator. "Young man, what are you doing?"
Suddenly, he was the one who was stammering and looking for a way out. In another moment, he was gone. I never saw my rescuer before that time or after. He just showed up when I needed him.
That’s how God is. When these eight lying voices of fear, abandonment, shame, taintedness, confusion, hopelessness, invalidation and powerless hold us in their grip, God shows up, in our place of greatest need. And when He does, everything changes.
We are children of the Almighty. We are seated in heavenly places with Christ. Our ears are tuned to hear the Greater Voice, the truth that sets us free.
Be encouraged!
