The thief comes … to steal … — John 10:10
At first glance, we might think that the enemy is after our bank accounts. While that may be true on some level, let me suggest to you that there is something far more valuable that he wants to take away from you.
He wants to rob you of your identity. This is a totally different kind of identity theft. This isn’t someone using a fake credit card with the bill unpaid and the consequences racking up on your credit report. This is a robbery that robs us of our value in God’s family, our righteousness, our courage as the indestructible children of Almighty God, our radiance as children of light, our clarity as those who receive the word of God, our hope as those who partake in eternal life.
Why have believers throughout the centuries joyfully accepted the confiscation of their property? Because we know we have better and more lasting possessions. (Hebrews 10:34) We know, deep inside, who we really are.
How do we gain the ability to give away our lives for the gospel? Because we discover how rich we truly are, and how small our earthly ambitions are by comparison. Where do we find generosity of spirit? Inside who we really are as God’s children, redeemed by the blood, transformed by the renewing of our minds.
Be encouraged!
