Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.– Ephesians 5:18
Why do people get drunk?
The answer is simple: The fantasy world of drunkenness seems to them to be so much better than the real world of sobriety. Alcohol deadens pain. It is cheap comfort.
All of us are smart enough to know that alcoholism leads to misery for the alcoholic and everyone around him or her. Yet that knowledge does not stop people from getting drunk.
What stops us from getting drunk? God’s alternative.
Why drink a lie, when you can drink the Truth? Why let a bottle comfort you, when you can let the Spirit of Christ comfort you? Why celebrate chaos, when you can celebrate Christ?
The answer is an experience, not an admonition. God is saying, find your true self and find your connection to My Spirit, and you will never be thirsty for alcohol again.
Drink deep from God. Let Him fill every corner of your hurting heart. Then you can laugh, then you can smile, then you can be at peace.
Be encouraged!
