MADISON, Wis. -While the snowstorm kept many people indoors, not everyone is fortunate enough to have shelter from the cold. Hypothermia is a serious concern across the state on the very cold nights. People looking for a place to stay out of the cold are turning to various organizations for help, including the Salvation Army. The organization’s homeless shelter on East Washington Avenue received extra cots and blankets from the Red Cross.
The 49ers’ 25-year-old starting quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, is adopted. I wonder if he sometimes feels for the woman who gave him up, who didn’t get the joy of knowing him and raising him. On that early December day in 1987, in a Wisconsin attorney’s office, four lives took wildly new turns.
The Wisconsin State Journal has been covering the trials of Care Net Pregnancy Center of Dane County as it goes before the city of Madison seeking support for an affordable housing project. In a city with a proven need for more affordable housing, Care Net’s plans are getting no traction because politics is getting in the way. (Updated on January 30th)
Madison residents have the option to attend large churches as well as small churches, but our megachurch options are not as robust as most other U.S. cities, according to the Barna research organization. Last week we reported that Madison ranked 75th in Barna’s index of Bible-Aware cities. But additional information indicates Madison has not embraced the trend of megachurch growth.
Two weeks ago, I cautiously returned to a choir rehearsal, this one for the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Choir. Each year, the Mt. Zion Baptist Church choir — one of the best in Madison, perhaps the best — expands and lets anybody join in for a performance at the Madison and Dane County MLK Jr. observance at Overture Center.
MADISON WI (ANS) — Some unique features of a first century synagogue found along the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee have sparked speculation that it may have belonged to a congregation of followers of Jesus of Nazareth, and not an ordinary Jewish community. However, the evidence is circumstantial so the story is pure speculation at this point.
No surprise regarding Madison in the new rankings of Bible-minded cities, issued the Barna polling organization. Wisconsin’s capital city places 75th on the list, while the top cities are in the southeast, the traditional Bible Belt.
The political climate, following last fall’s presidential election, may be ripe for immigration reform. Well known evangelical leaders believe immigration reform is a moral issue that church people need to support, now.Former Madison resident Stephan Bauman, now president of World Relief, joined other evangelicals in a video that makes a biblical case for reform.
When the Christian rock band MercyMe plays the Coliseum at Alliant Energy Center on Feb. 7, it will do so with one of the most unusual — and riskiest — ticketing approaches in the music industry. For the last four years, to save its fans money, the band has bypassed Ticketmaster, the giant ticket sales company with the eyeball-popping service fees. Instead, MercyMe brings its Rock & Worship Roadshow to towns for just $10 at the door. All seating is general admission. “People have told us it’s the dumbest thing we could possibly do,” said MercyMe frontman Bart Millard.
MADISON, Wisconsin – Care Net Pregnancy Center of Dane County’s request for conditional use to construct a mixed-use building with 36 residential units and a daycare facility was unanimously approved last night by the Madison City Plan Commission. Care Net is seeking to develop an affordable workforce housing apartment building on the adjoining property, 1360 MacArthur Road, called Eagle Harbor Apartments.
