NEW LONDON, Wis. — Not much is left of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church after a tornado tore through New London this week — but three crosses are unharmed.
“Going to walk with the Prince of Peace, down by the riverside,” they sang in the Tenney Park Shelter this evening at the 16th annual Lanterns for Peace observance, which marks the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. For no better reason than that Jesus is the Prince of Peace, it was a good evening to be present. The event is sponsored by a number of left-leaning peace organizations, such as Physicians for Social Responsibility, Pax Christi Madison, and the Madison Area Peace Coalition.
Just two private schools in Dane County have signed up to accept students under the new statewide voucher program. But there’s no guarantee Lighthouse Christian School in Madison or Westside Christian School in Middleton will participate.
MILWAUKEE -The Wisconsin Department of Justice announced Monday that Wisconsin officials participated in a large-scale, FBI-led child sex trafficking operation that rescued 10 children. The operation is known nationwide as Operation Cross Country VII, and the three-day operation in Wisconsin was conducted in the areas of Milwaukee, Madison, Wisconsin Dells and the Fox Valley, according to the release.

MADISON — Madison-based Vigil for Life has reported a dramatic increase in the number of babies saved from abortion at the local Planned Parenthood over the last few months. The organization has held a public vigil to end abortion in front of Planned Parenthood every business day since January of 2011.
For many years, Nick Schweitzer thought of the Dane County Fair as simply a place to view farm machinery and eat shaved ice. Then two years ago, he read an article in the Wisconsin State Journal about a woman who set up a booth at the fair to convince people the universe is only 6,000 years old. Schweitzer thinks the universe is considerably older, so he decided to get involved.
A group in DeForest is working to feed hungry children in their community free, nutritious meals this summer. Norski Nibbles, a organization operating out of Christ Lutheran Church in DeForest, offers a free lunch to anyone 18 years old or younger, Monday through Friday until Aug. 30.
