Two churches in Iowa are challenging a state law that would censor churches from expressing biblical views on sexuality and gender identity – even from the pulpit. Fort Des Moines Church of Christ filed a federal lawsuit against the Iowa Civil Rights Commission on Monday, arguing that the agency’s interpretation of the Iowa Civil Rights Act prohibits church members from making public comments that could be viewed as unwelcome to people with gender identity issues.

This summer, a local Madison business will donate to non-profit organizations to help improve the Northside of the city. Boomerangs Resale Store, located at 1133 N. Sherman Avenue in the Northgate Shopping Center, will give away $7,500 in grants, known as the Boomerangs Northside Community Grant, to Northside non-profits that are working to close equity and achievement gaps. “It all goes back to the mission of our store, which is to provide gently used items at good prices and ultimately give the profits away to entities on the Northside that could use that money,” said Craig Gielow, Boomerangs Resale Store…

Thoughts from my prayer time this morning.What we see all around us is the human race desperate for our king. The human race is groaning for what was meant to be and for what will actually occur -the return of the King and the restoring of all things to wholeness as God originally intended. Most unbelievers are unaware that this is what they are groaning for, although I imagine that some do. Even many believers are not consciously aware that this is what they are desperately seeking. 

The Madison Christian Giving Fund raises money to give it away to Christian non profits in Dane County. In 2015 the Fund raised over $120,000 from individual donors, foundations and businesses through payroll deduction campaigns. The Fund received over 50 applications for funds and after a thorough vetting process granted the money to 16 organizations in Dane County in 2016. The organizations focus on evangelism, children and youth, human needs, social justice, and discipleship and spiritual development.   “When we see the great work our partners are doing, we want to contribute to their long term success too”, said Scott…

Last month, Faith Radio took another step forward in its growth and outreach with the launch of Faith 104.7FM in Madison, Wis. According to Faith Radio General Manager Dick Whitworth, Faith 104.7 FM will help the network reach almost 400,000 people in the Madison metro area with relevant Bible preaching and family-focused teaching 24/7 in FM quality.

MIDDLETON — A married couple from my church has slowly become homeless over the last two months, and I’m not sure I can do much. For over a decade at Gateway Community Church in Middleton, we have had a ministry for adults and teens with developmental disabilities. We call this ministry our “Hope Class.” Because of this class, we have been blessed to know and love many people with a variety of forms of autism, Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities.

A grant of $5,000 from the Madison Christian Giving Fund to sponsor a fall outreach event by the Evangelical Catholic organization in Madison is having even greater impact than expected. Madison diocese Bishop Robert Morlino heard of the donation and called his top advisors together to hear more about the grant and the event being planned. According to Jason Simon, executive director of the Evangelical Catholic, the Bishop had never met with the group before. The World Vision Experience Truck is traveling across the country this summer and one of its stops is in Madison at Asbury United Methodist Church.  Housed in an expandable semi-trailer truck, this exhibit offers viewers a 20-minute virtual journey to witness a brothel in Bangladesh, the conditions surrounding the Syrian Refugee Crisis, and a unique threat in a community in Uganda — three examples of peoples in need of our Christian love, support, and action.

When we blame the problem on residents from Chicago, we wash our hands of any culpability that these young people (or issues or shootings) may be the product of our own environment. Maybe the hopelessness and the anger was incubated in our neighborhoods, our schools, our services, our faith communities. When we don’t own a problem we also don’t own the responsibility to work toward a solution for OUR Madison.

A crowd of 5600 was reported for evangelist Franklin Graham’s noon hour prayer rally at the King Street entrance to the Wisconsin State Capitol building.Graham is touring the capitols of all 50 states with an appeal for Christians to invest more heavily in the political process by praying for the country and actually running for office on the local, state, and national levels.
