Sisters,
I just learned that a new resource has been published for people using theophostic prayer in healing prayer ministry. Fr. Bob Sears and another Catholic priest from north Dakota have authored a Çatholic’s guide to Theophostic Ministry.
For any Catholic sisters involved in healing prayer ministry, this is worth having and using.
Protestants (and many Catholics) among our community of women may not know that inner healing prayer ministry was a non-issue back in the 1970s – except for some visionary Catholics and a few Pentecostals who had never stopped. Catholics like Francis and Judith MacNutt, the Linn brothers started writing about inner healing.
Theophostic is a tool for healing prayer ministry. The priinciples that when we’re hurt, we broken humans believe lies about ourselves, God, and others is no surprise. The idea that those lies interfere with healthy living and with the process of being made more like Jesus that we all long for. The radical idea that TRUTH really will set us free – in concrete, experiential ways that we can see and feel and know – and be changed by.
Some Christians have assumed (living in our heads as evangelicals tend to do) that the whole thing of truth setting us free just means that we’ll know true things and have true theology and believe the truth of the bible and then we’ll be free from sin. That’s all….um….true. But it’s not the whole story. The whole story (or more of the whole story at least) is that when Jesus speaks and shows us HIS truth, the lies we had believed…even those really deep, hidden ones that we don’t want to admit we really believe but we do….are exposed. And, HIS truth will cause us to see the lies as they really are – false and empty. We can choose to agree with His truth and not the old lie.
It really happens. Honest. When Jesus comes and speaks truth, it’s like that old Paine Webber Investment Bankers TV commercial. When Jesus talks, Everybody listens.
So, the theophostic ministry folks have a new resource for Catholics. Enjoy. Be fruitful and all that!
