Where else are you invited to a behind-the-scenes glimpse at how visionary, faithful Christians are creatively meeting needs in the local population, and then given the opportunity to vote on who might be the most deserving to receive extra needed funding? That’s was the format once again as United Madison Christian Givers (UMCG) met this week at the InterVarsity building in University Research Park, for their third quarterly Grant Award Meeting. Our previous reports are here: Winter and Spring.  “We are a Jesus-centered Christian organization,” UMCG president Josh Kaurich said as he introduced the evening. These ministries were then given the…

This was year four of Madison’s collaborative week of service, and do we ever have the stories to back up the momentum and value of this experience! Over 300 volunteers from 24 Madison churches contributed 898 volunteer hours of work at 12 public schools and other sites around Madison. For the second year in a row, a broad spectrum of more than two dozen Madison churches and Christian ministries gave thanks to God in an ecumenical Thanksgiving service. The service was held Monday evening, November 20, at City Church on Buckeye Road. Foregoing their significant theological differences, participants chose instead to agree on their unifying faith in Jesus Christ and the blessings of faith that called for thankful praise. “Gratitude is our response to the gift of life,” said Madison Catholic Bishop Donald Hying in his Call to Worship. “Thanksgiving isn’t to be held to the fourth Thursday of…

“Two Wisconsinites – a white Anglican priest and a Hispanic Evangelical pastor – are playing soccer against a team of youth in Mexico…” No, this isn’t the start of a joke, but rather a beautiful picture of joy during a joint Mission Trip involving two very different Madison churches. How did this come to be? Let’s back up to April of 2020. Fresh in the pandemic, the lunch staff at Lighthouse School came to Pastor Marcio and Principal Tia with an idea: to continue cooking hot meals for their kids, available for parking lot pickup. This idea grew. And with it,…

Hope Night Wisco! Frank Lloyd Wright probably didn’t have this in mind when he first began designing what became Madison’s Monona Terrace Convention Center: a Friday night Holy Ghost revival service that filled Exhibition Hall B for three hours or more. Hope Night Wisco at Monona Terrace was the 13th event in a series of Hope Nights that started a year ago last March when a recently converted couple in Chippewa Falls decided to sell their bar and event center. Before the sale their pastor, Landon Huie of Eau Claire’s Oasis Church, suggested, “Let’s have a worship night and lift…
