Jenny Czerkas has dedicated her life to uplifting some of Madison’s most vulnerable communities. As the co-founder and operations director of Extended Hands Pantry, Jenny helped fill bellies and increase hope for countless low-income households, particularly for immigrants and refugees, who rely on the pantry for critical support. Jenny started a 100% mobile food pantry during the pandemic to address the increasing food shortages faced by families. What began as an emergency response soon blossomed into an essential service. By Fred Grossenbach – Backpack drives are taking place all over the city as school openings approach. This year Lighthouse Christian School and Church partnered with Christ Church Madison to “take it up a notch” to bless the community in multiple ways. Christ Church provided over 300 backpacks. Assisted by a generous grant from the Madison Christian Giving Fund, Lighthouse provided free school supplies. Pencils, pens, notebooks and calendars were available for free on a first come first served basis. But there was more: a bouncy slide and face painting for the kids, a taco truck, music and the Extended…
“Two Wisconsinites – a white Anglican priest and a Hispanic Evangelical pastor – are playing soccer against a team of youth in Mexico…” No, this isn’t the start of a joke, but rather a beautiful picture of joy during a joint Mission Trip involving two very different Madison churches. How did this come to be? Let’s back up to April of 2020. Fresh in the pandemic, the lunch staff at Lighthouse School came to Pastor Marcio and Principal Tia with an idea: to continue cooking hot meals for their kids, available for parking lot pickup. This idea grew. And with it,…
“It’s truly beautiful to see what God is doing in this city,” said Lighthouse Church pastor Marcio Sierra, the keynote speaker at the Madison Christian Giving Fund (MCGF) Tenth Anniversary Celebration of Generosity. The celebration was held Friday, October 20, 2023 in the Micah Center at High Point Church. As a pastor, Sierra is used to seeing God at work in his congregation, and perhaps in the congregations of other pastors that he knows. But he said he got a greater perspective through his involvement with MCGF. His involvement has been as a grant recipient for Lighthouse Church and School,…
by Gordon Govier, MadisonChristians.com – Lighthouse Church is not the first in Madison to offer a food pantry…or a Christian school. But few churches offer both in such a robust manner. The newly built Extended Hands food pantry attached to the northwest end of the Lighthouse church and school building was dedicated with prayers and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Thursday afternoon, May 18, 2023. The growing complex is located at 6402 Schroeder Road on Madison’s westside in what started out as a Rayovac office building, and then for many years served as the national office of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. Andy and…
By Marcio Sierra, pastor, Lighthouse Church – Hallelujah, the work of building a permanent food pantry at Lighthouse Church and Lighthouse Christian School Madison has officially started. We can’t wait for this space to be ready so that we can continue to serve more people in the community. Thank you Extended Hands Pantry for running this pantry and all the work that you have done to make this happen. We are happy to say that together, we have raised over 3/4 of the finances needed to complete this project. If you would like to invest in people through this great…
