COMMENTARYRiding the train down to London last summer, after a two-week fellowship session on science and religion at the University of Cambridge, I noticed an article in the Independent newspaper about a new book which reinforced that notion of an increasingly irreligious Europe. COMMENTARYOneida, Ky. – We are on the verge – within 10 years – of a major collapse of evangelical Christianity. This breakdown will follow the deterioration of the mainline Protestant world and it will fundamentally alter the religious and cultural environment in the West. Within two generations, evangelicalism will be a house deserted of half its occupants. (Between 25 and 35 percent of Americans today are Evangelicals.) Christian students and campus ministry staff at the University of Wisconsin have once again launched a 40-day 24/7 prayer room at Faith Community Bible Church, which is located at the corner of Park and Regent streets, adjacent to campus."We have a heart and desire to grow in intimacy with the Lord through prayer, build unity amongst believers on campus, and prepare the way in hearts and minds of students and faculty for the coming of the Lord," the prayer room team said in announcing the beginning of the prayer campaign in February. For the 19-year-old and many of his friends, the social networking site is something close to an obsession. “I’m on there a total of three hours a day … four hours on weekends,” said Farrah, a native of Monroe, N.J., and now a student at Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.
