The Touched Twice Clinic, a zero-budget outreach of volunteers from area churches, will return to Madison on Saturday, October 13. A Leadership Team meeting was held at Evangel Life Center last evening to begin planning the clinic. Attending the meeting were a dozen men and women representing seven area churches. Some were veterans of past Touched Twice Clinics and some have not experienced the clinic before.
Touched Twice Clinics held in Madison over the past three years have served hundreds of needy city residents with dental care, medical care, vision correction, chiropractic care, a hearty meal, massages and haircuts. All services are provided at no cost in the name of Christ, by volunteers representing the Christian community of Madison. Volunteers from more than a dozen area churches have participated in past Touched Twice Clinics, the first of which was held in Madison in August of 2004.
The name Touched Twice comes from the innovative concept initiated by Chippewa Falls optician Perry Polnaszek. The people who are served by the clinic have the opportunity to receive needed medical care, food and other services. But they are also paired with a volunteer who accompanies them through the process and offers some form of compassionate Christian witness as the opportunity affords itself.
The clinic coordinators this year are Elizabeth Fredenberg, who is on staff at Evangel Life Center, and Fred Grossenbach, president of The Jericho Project. Volunteers have come forward to fill some of the leadership team positions, such as prayer coordinator, medical coordinators and food coordinators. Volunteers are still being sought for other positions, such as transportation coordinator, dental coordinator and optical coordinator.
Most of the clinic services will be provided in the recently remodeled facilities of Evangel Life Center. However dental care is usually the service most in demand and those services will be provided in the clinics of dentists who volunteer to be a part of the Touched Twice Clinic.
Madison area residents who would like to volunteer to be a part of the October 13th clinic, either as a medical professional, or coordinating other aspects of the clinic, should contact Elizabeth Fredenberg at 222-4900.
