A faith-based South Side Madison community development organization will celebrate 25 years of helping to grow leadership in Madison’s African-American community.
The Nehemiah Center for Urban Leadership and Development will host a free anniversary event Nov. 3 at Overture Center. The event will include dessert, a presentation by Nehemiah’s founder and president, the Rev. Alex Gee, live music, dancing, a chance to look back at the group’s work over the years with current and former staff members, donors and program participants and a look at the organization’s future efforts.
A follow-up sent out from the Nehemiah Center:
Last Friday Nehemiah friends gathered and we celebrated 25 years of working together for a stronger Madison by strengthening the African American community. Those of you who joined us know what a great time we had at the Overture Center, not just reminiscing about our compelling story, but casting our eyes towards what an even stronger Madison for all could look like.
Whether or not you were able to join us at our recent 25th anniversary celebration we want you to know how grateful we are for you! I am honored to see such a unique vision come to fruition in and for our community.
With your friendship and support we’ve made an amazing long-lasting impact over the past 25 years! We have literally touched thousands of incredible lives.
● Together we have helped youth develop positive identity, strong character, leadership skills, and academic success.
● Together we have helped formerly incarcerated men reenter our community, reconnect with their families, get good paying jobs, and have supportive housing.
● Together we have supported single moms and helped support their families.
● Together we have helped to launch and finance African American entrepreneurs into their own business ventures.
● Together we have built tremendous leadership capacity in the African American community through our leadership training.
● Together we are helping develop relationships across racial lines and are creating solutions to complex disparity issues in our community.
If you haven’t yet become a member of our “Friends of Nehemiah” team of regular and consistent donors we invite you to join! It is because of those sustaining gifts that Nehemiah can continue to strengthen the community for all, as well as hire, grow and support an amazing staff team.
The easiest way to become a regular supporter is by going to www.nehemiah.org and clicking on the “Donate Now” button.
Here’s to a stronger community for all – and the next 25 years together!
