Ten years ago this month, madisonchristians.com began to serve the Madison Christian community, with articles on the Madison House of Prayer for All Nations and a Statewide Pastor’s Summit held in Madison.
The House of Prayer closed a few months later but the opportunities to report on events in Madison’s Christian didn’t quit. In fact, though Madison’s reputation is otherwise, the stories we’ve reported clearly show it is a city with a vibrant Christian community and thriving churches.
Madison is home to national ministries such as InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA). Earlier this year it also hosted a national conference focused on Reporting on Religion.
In recent years more than a few organizations have sprung up right here in Madison to engage the community from a Christian perspective, such as Justified Anger, Care Net, The Upper|House, the Madison Christian Giving Fund, Madison Marketplace Christians, and Lifest at Brat Fest.
(Note: Brat Fest is coming up this weekend and the speaker at the Lifest Sunday morning community worship service will be Aaron Kampman of the Green Bay Packers Trust. Service begins at 8:30am.)
When a half-dozen Madison-area residents from a variety of churches got together to plan madisonchristians.com more than 10 years ago, the scriptural foundation chosen was Romans 12:5: “In Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” [NIV] Our intention is to focus on the work of the body of Christ in the local area, particularly the activity that serves and works for the welfare of the community. (“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” – Jeremiah 29:7 [NIV])
Every day we read stories about the messiness of the world, serious issues on the local, state, national, and world levels that seem out of control. But we believe God is sovereign and still at work through his people.
We want people to know what He is doing. And we want your help.
