The Pew Research Center has ranked all 50 states in four categories of religious observance, and Wisconsin is near the bottom. In fact, outside of five New England states, Wisconsin is the least religious state in the country (tied with Washington and Alaska).
Wisconsin’s low ranking is based most heavily on the state’s low church attendance. Only 27 percent of residents attend church weekly. Forty four percent say religion is important in their lives. Forty six percent say they pray daily and 56 percent believe in God with absolute certainty.
Alabama is the most religious, followed by a number of additional Bible Belt states. Among midwestern states, Missouri, South Dakota, and Ohio rank 15th, 16th, and 17th.
