It’s been an unsettling summer with a world full of problems pushing at us for our attention. It’s hard to know how to respond or whether there is anything we can do in response to troubling news on the other side of the world. Madison-based WE International has a suggestion.
WE International invites you to make a difference in the life of one child in a troubled corner of the world. We International has begun WE Educate!, a sponsorship program for children deemed at-risk in the African country of Uganda.
“Children who are at-risk are orphans, children who are homeless, children forced, often from a young age, into child labor, and children of our Women-At-Risk participants who were victims of human trafficking or forced prostitution,” said WE International executive director David Lippiatt. ” By sponsoring one of these children through WE International, you will be giving your child the most effective and proven tool to breaking the cycle of poverty: an education.”
For a monthly sponsorship of $38, sponsors will be giving children:
- School fees
- School uniforms and shoes (often an additional requirement of schools)
- Supplies such as a backpack, pens, pencils and notebooks
- Daily lunches
- Extra funding for special projects
- Travel expenses for children in higher grades whose schools are located away from home
To launch WE Educate!, WE international is inviting the Madison community to Cool Beans Coffee House on Sunday, August 24, for an open house to learn more about their programs. The WE International open house is from 4:30pm to 7:30pm; Cool Beans Coffee House is located at 1749 Eagan Road in Madison.
