All movies have a message, multiple messages in fact. The main message of Not Today, opening at the Marcus Point Cinema this Friday is that you, here in Madison, can have an impact on the terrible scourge of human trafficking.
Far from a typical Hollywood movie, Not Today offers a front row seat to view the debilitating impact of human trafficking. It’s message comes through loud and clear.
Brent Martz, one of the movie’s producers, is on the pastoral staff of Friends Church in Yorba Linda, California:
“The idea for Not Today came directly from our church’s work with the Dalit people in India for the past decade. Commonly referred to as the Untouchables, these people are actually considered lower than most animals. We are committed to building schools for Dalit children to help keep them from being trafficked.
“After the movie opened successfully in 20 cities in April, we had hoped people in a handful of cities would partner with us to bring Not Today to their towns. Needless-to-say, we’ve been overwhelmed to have more than 40 new cities represented in this second wave of openings for the movie.
“But Not Today has never been about numbers—unless you’re talking about the number of people enslaved around the world today. That number is estimated to be 27 million people. We’ve seen the horrors of trafficking firsthand in India; that’s why we are so committed to this cause.
“While fighting slavery may seem like too big of a battle to wage, as you see in Not Today, the actions of one person can start to make a difference.”
