The Midwestern Gentleman website, based in Detroit, Michigan, last week profiled Cottage Grove resident and entrepreneur Kenton Sorenson. MWG was attracted to the craftsmanship of Kenton’s leather work, as well as his modesty and confidence (“qualities that separate a Midwestern man from his counterparts”). Setting him in the footsteps of Johnny Appleseed, Federick Pabst, and Frank Lloyd Wright, is pretty exclusive company.
But Kenton’s modesty and confidence is not news to those of us at madisonchristians.com. MC was, after all, Kenton’s idea. It was his idea to use this website to provide a service to the Christian community of Madison. Kenton was the one who invited me to be the news editor back in 2004.
MC was finally launched online in 2006 but by that time Kenton was no longer involved. His creativity has called him in other directions, and MWG has reported part of that story.
For awhile Kenton also produced a regular devotional blog called Simple Minded Faith. We link to it on our Madison blog page. I would invite you to scroll through the archives of Simple Minded Faith some time for some still-fresh reflections on Christian faith and practice.
So this is just a simple note of appreciation to Kenton and his wife Marlene for their steadfast faith and for all that they contribute to the Christian community in the Madison area. Marlene was formerly on staff with Mad City Church and has her own ministry.
Kenton is far more than just a Great Midwestern Gentleman.
