An article in the October 22nd Orange County Register asks about Steve Arterburn, “Is This Radio Host the Christian Jerry Springer?” Touching on some of the topics discussed on Arterburn’s daily radio program–a lesbian bipolar mother, a baby born out of wedlock, a husband’s pornography habit–the article suggests the content sounds similar.
Liz Osborne, the executive director of the CareNet Pregnancy Center of Dane County, has never heard Arterburn’s radio program. But she has heard him speak and says that he has a very compassionate way of addressing people’s most serious problems. Arterburn is the guest speaker at CareNet’s 25th Anniversary Banquet at Monona Terrace this coming Thursday evening, November 4, 2010.
Arterburn’s radio program, New Life Live, has been on the air for 20 years. It is based in Laguna Beach CA and the program airs on about 200 stations across the country. On the program Arterburn and his guest experts offer a Christian perspective and helpful advice to people who call in to talk about their problems.
Arterburn has also written a number of books and is the founder of the Women of Faith conferences, attended by over 4-million people.
For 25 years CareNet of Dane County has been providing compassionate counseling on abortion and pregnancy-related issues to residents of the Madison area. CareNet held a 25th anniversary celebration at its offices on MacArthur Road last April. CareNet has broad support from the local Christian community, including both Catholic and Protestant congregations and church members.
Registration for Thursday night’s dinner opens at 6:15. Seating starts at 6:30pm and the dinner/program begins at 7:00pm. In addition to Arterburn, attendees will hear from clients of CareNet.
