Walid Shoebat, a former Palestinian terrorist, sounded a warning about Islam to a Madison church audience Sunday. Speaking to several hundred people who had gathered at Grace Evangelical Church, 4127 County AB, Shoebat presented a strong argument that out of Islam will come the anti-Christ of Biblical prophecy.
Shoebat related the story of his conversion from Islam to Christianity in the morning service at Grace Church. But in an evening service that stretched from 4pm to almost 8pm, Shoebat challenged prevailing notions about both Islam and Biblical prophecy. He noted the irony of being assured by one news interviewer that Islam was a peaceful religion and then being asked if he was afraid for his life for converting from Islam to Christianity.
Shoebat said he was not presenting a new argument. Islam’s role in prophecy has been discussed by many scholars over the years but in recent decades it has been popular in prophetic circles to see the anti-Christ coming out of the European Common Market and interpreting Rome as the new Babylon. Instead, said Shoebat, Saudi Arabia is more likely the new Babylon.
Pointing out the harlot of Revelation chapter 17, who is described as committing adultery with the kings of the earth and intoxicating the inhabitants of the earth with the wine of her adulteries, Shoebat asked, "Who is in bed with who?"
Focusing on numerous prophetic scriptures in the Old Testament, Shoebat pointed out connection after connection that seemed to point to Arabia. One example, a prophecy against Babylon at the beginning of Isaiah chapter 21 which says, "Like whirlwinds sweeping through the southland, an invader comes from the desert, from a land of terror."
Shoebat had much more to say about prophecy, a transcription of one of his presentations can be found online. But above all he made two important points: #1 – trust the Bible. "Do not trust in Walid Shoebat, trust in the text," he said. And #2 – don’t get too wrapped up in prophecy. "Don’t focus on the timing, be ready for it," he said.
