Boomerangs, a resale shop operated through Madison’s Door Creek Church (DCC) opened one year ago on Sept 9th, at 1133 N. Sherman Avenue, in the Northgate Shopping Center. A report to the DCC community states: "We continue to see God’s hand moving in this special ministry. We have had over 12,500 customers and over $129,000 in sales. More importantly real needs in our community are being met."
Boomerangs has:
- Provided families from DCC, the local community and Schenk Elementary with free clothing and household items to meet emergency needs.
- Partnered with the Nehemiah Corporation, providing furniture for a home for ex-offenders
- Hosted a women’s small group Bible study It has been a year of challenges that demonstrated our need for God and for volunteers!
Some of the store’s successes and challenges during the past year:
- Working with the overwhelming, generous donations of the people of DCC and the community, especially clothing.
- Opening the store in just a few weeks including all the painting, electrical, display building and more.
- Flooding in the store several times during the winter making operations "challenging".
- Creating a resale shop that did not look or feel like a resale shop.
Store Hours:
Monday-Saturday – 10am-5pm
Thursday -10am-7 pm
The report went on to say:
"God has provided a dedicated leadership team with Terri Rorek as our store manager, and many faithful volunteers. We recognize the opportunity and blessing we have to be a witness on the north side of Madison. We hope to begin distributing our profits to three local faith based ministries who can meet local needs for housing and feeding and caring for those in need."
Boomerangs also has a satellite location. Because of antique, collectible or vintage donations, the store management felt that marketing them correctly could net a higher selling price for DCC charities. Beginning in late July, 2009, and through the end of the year, Boomerangs is renting a booth at the Antique Mall of Madison, 4748 Cottage Grove Road. The Boomerangs II booth is currently filled with over 300 items from Boomerangs that are considered vintage. They can be seen in booth number 53.
