The Touched Twice Clinic, a zero-budget community outreach that seeks to provide for the medical, physical, and spiritual needs of Madison’s less fortunate residents, will be offered again this Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Calvary Gospel Church, 5301 Commercial Avenue.
As the local Touched Twice website reports, "Madison Touched Twice is a Christ-centered, faith-based organization that strives to bring healing and peace to the community. We act as a catalyst, mobilizing volunteers from local churches to host free clinics that strive to meet the medical, spiritual, and physical needs of the guests – all on a budget of zero dollars and zero cents."
The most recent Touched Twice Clinic was held last October 18th. "The outreach was a success with 16 volunteering dentists, 10 physicians, 5 chiropractors, an acupunturist , massage thereapists and hair stylists," reported coordinator Peg Baker. "Around 600 hundred people attended the clinic to receive free dental, health, and chiropractic care. Many thanks go out to the people of the christian community who offered up their time for those in need."
Since the first Touched Twice Clinic in 2004, the clinics have been held only once per year in Madison. Baker says the volunteer leadership is aiming towards the goal of four clinics per year.
Volunteers are still being invited to help out at Saturday’s clinic. The clinic hours are 10am to 2pm. For more information go online to www.touchedtwicemadison.org.
Touched Twice United, the national umbrella group for the clinics, began 12 years ago. Their goal is to have a clinic in every county in the U.S. by 2011. Touched Twice United is headquartered in Eau Claire, WI.
