And he struck down a huge Egyptian. Although the Egyptian had a spear in his hand, Benaiah went against him with a club. He snatched the spear from the Egyptians’s hand and killed him with his own spear. — 2 Samuel 23:21
Why does God give us impossible challenges? Because any other kind are – well – boring.
Benaiah could have looked at the club in his own hand. But instead, he looked at the spear in the Egyptian’s hands. This reminds me of Ashley, a cat we owned years ago. She was a feisty creature who preferred biting and scratching to purring and cuddling. The last time I saw Ashley, she was in the middle of our driveway. Barn swallows were swooping down on her like a line of military jets strafing the countryside. But Ashley didn’t seem to get the message that she was being driven away. Instead, she leaped into the air to try to knock the barn swallows out of their flight plan onto her dinner plate.
"I can’t believe it," she seemed to say, "they’re coming to me!"
So also, opportunities from God come to us disguised as "impossible" challenges. God does His best work when all the odds are stacked against us. God’s greatest triumph came when the nails were driven into the hands and feet of His own Son.
Be encouraged!
