Boomerang Store Works Two Ways

Boomerangs Resale Store has opened its doors to help people in the Madison community in two very distinct ways.  First, it is a Resale Store selling used merchandise at a reasonable cost to Madison residents.  Secondly, the income generated will be distributed to support three faith-based mercy ministries in the greater Madison area.  

In December of 2007 a passion began to build in the hearts of people at Door Creek Church.  They questioned what they could be doing to make a difference in Madison.  Pastor Marc Maillefer told them about a church in Illinois that had started a Resale Store that helped to meet the needs of people in their community.  This sparked the interest of many, so they took a trip to that Resale Store and when they returned the birthing process of Boomerangs had begun.

The name Boomerangs was chosen because the store reflects what a boomerang actually does. The people throw out their “boomerangs” by donating good quality items, and it comes back to them when their hearts are blessed for helping others.  This also works the same for the volunteers.  They donate their time to volunteer at the store and joy comes back to them because they cared enough to take their time to help. 

Manager Terri Rorek, assisted by many volunteers, has created a store with character.  Each section of the store is uniquely designed with attractive displays that invite you to stop and take a look. 

There are many stories of how God has provided to make this dream a reality.  One example happened as they were beginning to stock their store.  They visited an auction of a business that had failed.  There was a man there who purchased a whole wall of new items.  Then he turned around and donated most of items to the Resale store. God is faithful.  When he calls us to do something he gives us what we need to make it come about. 

Prayer has been an essential ingredient in Boomerangs Resale Store. The possibilities for the future are endless.  Randy Olson, Director of Operations & Outreach at Door Creek Church, believes that there could be many opportunities for other ministries to be a part of Boomerangs.  They want to be ready for whatever God would bring along.  Boomerangs Resale Store is just beginning, but only God knows what miracles will show up along the way.
