What’s new… Updated article, "In Defense of Theophostic." http://www.dwightclough.com/theophostic_defense.html
I lift up my eyes to the hills — from whence cometh my help? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. — Psalm 121:1-2
I cannot read these verses without thinking about my grandmother. She lived all her life near the majestic bluffs surrounding the Mississippi River. During the last third of her life, she lived in a valley the locals call Sugar Creek. Every morning she would step outside her little cottage and look across the valley at the beautiful wooded hills of Crawford County, Wisconsin. And she would say these words.
The scriptures tell us the God dwells in inapproachable light. Those that stand in His presence are overwhelmed by His glory. But, at the moment, for whatever reason, most of God’s glory is hidden from us. We cannot see it. Here in our world, somewhere between heaven and hell, we live in a place where smart people actually imagine and believe that God doesn’t even exist.
The voices of doubt swirl around us. Your God has abandoned you. Your God will not protect you. Your God doesn’t care about you. All of us have heard these voices at some time in some way. But for His children, God leaves a witness, reassurances. It seems that he cuts little holes in the fabric of our world to let the glory of heaven shine through.
The hills, the stars, a smile, a word of encouragement — all around us is the evidence that God is here, and that makes all the difference.
Be encouraged!
