NEWS RELEASE
Madison, WI – Starting today, September 24, 2008, Madison area pro-life advocates are joining with people of faith, conscience, and good will, from over 170 cities across the nation for the second 40 Days for Life campaign. 40 Days for Life is a nationwide pro-life campaign that focuses on 40 days of constant prayer and fasting, 40 days of peaceful vigil and witness at abortion facilities, and 40 days of grassroots educational outreach to work towards ending the tragedy of abortion.
The Madison vigil location is outside of Planned Parenthood at 3706 Orin Road on Madison’s east side. The Opening Prayer Vigil is 5:30 pm, on September 24. The campaign lasts from September 24 to November 2.
“During these 40 Days for Life, we will join with people in Madison, across America, Canada and America Samoa to pray and fast to end abortion. With each passing year, Americans are being awakened to the tragedy that is abortion. This effort is aimed at raising awareness about the sufferings that abortion causes to our entire society. The brokenness of the mothers, the woundedness of the fathers, and the children they’ve lost to the choice of abortion,” said Amy Hying, coordinator for the Madison 40 Days for Life campaign.
Last year, citizens in Madison joined with communities throughout Wisconsin and America to offer 24 hours of prayer outside of abortion centers. In two of those communities, abortion centers closed and are no longer operating.
Here in Wisconsin, 40 Days for Life prayer vigils will also occur in Milwaukee, LaCrosse, Green Bay and Grand Chute.

UPDATE: Last night, we had our kickoff candlelight vigil. Pastor Tom Flaherty of MadCity Church urged us to take on the fear of the Lord so that we might do right in His sight and take on the work of building a culture of life. Curt Jacobsen, one of the team, reminded us that a children’s playground used to be where the Planned Parenthood building now stands. He expressed a common goal for all of us: to make that spot a playground once again! Fr. Rick Heilman sent us forth in prayer to battle against the culture of death.
