His [Moses’] sister stood at a distance to see what would happen to him. Then Pharaoh’s daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the river bank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her slave girl to get it. She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. "This is one of the Hebrew babies," she said. Then his sister asked Pharaoh’s daughter, "Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?" — Exodus 2:4-7
Moses was placed into the hands of God. His mother and his sister, Miriam, relinquished their hold on him. They could have tried to keep him, but that would have resulted in his death. By releasing him, they not only spared his life, but opened the door for God to deliver an entire nation.
So much of life is God working with us to pry our fingers of control off our lives so He can take what we have and turn it into something truly remarkable. In this story, a desperate mom hopes against hope that something will happen to save her little baby. But God had greater and grander designs.
When we pray, even our prayers of desperation, keep in mind that we are praying to Someone who can take our small request and come back with an answer that is miles higher than anything we could have hoped for.
Be encouraged!
