I’m working my way through a list of verses my daughter gave me to write devotionals on. Here’s the 4th verse:
The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." — Genesis 2:18
I want to direct this word to those who are alone, and those who feel alone. I want to focus your attention on three words in this verse: "I will make."
God looked at Adam, perfect, created in God’s image, sinless, whole in every way, but alone, and God said, "I will make." That same God sees you. That same God is able to fashion for you a family. He will make.
I don’t know what that will look like for you. It might be a husband or a wife. It might a family of believers. But He sees you, and He knows that you are alone.
Remember though, that before God created Adam’s perfect companion, He breathed into Adam the breath of life. Before God created Eve, He also gave Adam a job to do. Let me encourage you to sit at the feet of Jesus and let the Lord breathe into you the breath of life. If He gives you an assignment, take it and do it. He wants you whole and He wants your companion to be whole as well.
God has a plan. He hasn’t forgotten that you are alone. Over your life I speak those words from the Lord: "I will make … "
Be encouraged!
