If you live in the greater Madison area, I would like to encourage you to join Steve Freitag or myself as we spend five weeks discussing the dynamics of spiritual freedom beginning the week of June 19. Details on my class here. Details on Steve’s class here (pdf).
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. — John 1:12-13
I have four children, and I’ve done my share of diaper duty. I know what it’s like to change dirty diapers – I’ve changed hundreds of them.
But when I look at my four children, I never think about the diapers I’ve changed. It never enters my mind.
God is a holy God. And sin is not tolerated in His family, any more than I would allow one of my kids to go around for a week wearing the same dirty diaper. When we fall into sin, God steps in and does what He needs to do so that we can be clean again.
Dealing with sin is part of the process of living in God’s family. But it is not the main focus. There is so much more to the abundant life than confession of sin. Coming into agreement with God about our sins just gets us to the place where we can go on with life. It is necessary, but don’t confuse necessity with centrality. God is central. Sin is not.
Be encouraged!
