FIRST PERSON
As I look back on the River Food Pantry’s first year of service to
The greatest blessing though is the huge number of volunteers who have helped us week after week. You will find that many of them also use the pantry too. Together we have built a community that is united in service. Our volunteers come from different churches, educational institutions and also from the community. We all work together for the purpose accomplishing our mission.
In the last year, The River Food Pantry has served 4,500 families, 8,000 meals and given away over 182,000 pounds of food. All of this would not have been possible without God’s blessing and your support.
We have built strong relationships with Second Harvest and Community Action Coalition, our two food banks. Without them our finances would not have been sufficient. We continue to rely on them weekly. We have also had the opportunity to build a relationship with the First United Methodist Pantry, who is currently partnering with us and serving the needy out of the River’s location on a temporary basis. As they return to their own facility in August, we will open the pantry another evening during the week.
The pantry has also earned funds through running a concession stand at the University of Wisconsin and now with a motorcycle raffle that is currently underway. We hope to use the funds to expand our service ability.
When we began all of this, we began it as a leap of faith that God would bless an endeavor that seeks to serve others. And so He has. Building materials showed up when needed, expert craftsmen came when needed and people just showed up when needed. We didn’t know what lay before us but just walked forward, one step at a time.
The River Food Pantry is healthy financially, materially and spiritually. We leave our own agendas outside and seek God’s. We believe that God has much more for us in this ministry and we continue to look for ways to be a greater blessing to
