The weather was perfect and the location right on target. Capital City Church (Assemblies of God) in Madison provided 32 helpers and Eagle Heights provided over 200 international residents in attendance for a sunny afternoon of various activities last Saturday.The outreach, targeted towards children, started off with a hot dog and Boca Burger cookout complete with fresh watermelon and cotton candy. This summer groups from many Madison churches are traveling to participate in ministry projects. This report is from Angie Meyers, a 2005 journalism graduate of the UW-Madison School of Human Ecology now working as an administrative assistant at InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. She and her husband Dave were a part of a group of 40 men and women from Blackhawk Church that traveled to Juarez, Mexico, to construct a Sunday School building for a church and a home for a family. 7:06 p.m. COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Episcopal Church has elected the world’s first female presiding bishop, spurring a reaction of shock, delight and some dismay among thousands of delegates and bishops gathered here. Katharine Jefferts Schori, 52, bishop of the 6,000-member Episcopal Diocese of Nevada, is the church?s new presiding bishop, a post equivalent to that of archbishop.
